Love

Musings

The need to surrender is one of the great paradoxes of love.
Surrender may seem like giving up. Or giving in.
In reality, we are strengthened,
when we actively choose to make ourselves vulnerable.
We are empowered by sharing our deepest self with another person.
Offering our fears, our soul, our life.
Surrender is an act of free will. A sacred trust.
When love beckons to you, follow.
Though its path is hard, and steep, when its wings enfold you, yield.
Even when the sword hidden among its pinions wounds you.
When it speaks to you, believe.
Its voice may shatter your dreams, as the north wind lays waste to the garden. Even as love crowns you, so shall it crucify you.
As it is for your growth, so it is also for your pruning.
If, in your fear,
you would seek only love’s peace,
or love’s pleasure,
then it be better for you, that you cover your nakedness.
And pass from love’s threshing-floor.
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh,
but not with all your laughter,
And weep,
with but a fraction
of all of your tears.
